Research Impact: Humanities and Social Sciences
Our research in the humanities and social sciences has a significant impact on society, with findings disseminated both nationally and internationally. We focus on five key areas:
1. Mekong River Basin Society and Culture:
We conduct multidisciplinary research on the societies and cultures of the Mekong River Basin, contributing to academic discourse in Thailand and abroad. Our work spans various dimensions, including history, economics, sociology, culture, ethnicity, language and literature, information and communications, architecture, art, environment, and regional development.
2. Information and Knowledge:
Our research in information and knowledge studies is recognized internationally, with publications in leading journals. We explore topics such as digital humanities, knowledge management across disciplines and within organizations (public and private), knowledge organization and classification, metadata and ontology development, digital archiving, library and learning resource development, the information profession, information behavior, and information communication.
3. Labor and Population Studies:
Our research in labor and population studies addresses critical social issues. We investigate topics such as Thai workers abroad, Isan labor, labor rights of marginalized groups, social movements of people with disabilities, migration and displacement, cross-border human trafficking, cross-cultural marriages, aging populations, rural and Isan families, and border communities between Thailand and neighboring countries.
4. Organizational and Social Development:
We conduct research that informs organizational and social development. Our work covers areas such as civil society, well-being, promoting democratic values and good governance, social capital, community welfare, strengthening community organizations, gender roles in development, slum community development, community learning processes, community enterprises, urban planning, participatory development planning, social policy development, development training, policy and plan administration, local government administration, strategic administration, and organizational and human resource management.
5. Language and Literature:
Our research in language and literature explores local and Mekong River Basin languages and literatures, language teaching and learning methodologies, the use of media and technology in language education, applied linguistics, translation studies, etymology, comparative linguistics (e.g., Thai and other languages), literary analysis reflecting social contexts and cultural practices, discourse analysis, and word formation and semantics.
6. Philosophy and Religion:
Our research in philosophy and religion examines key areas such as Buddhist philosophy and teachings, Isan beliefs and philosophy, Eastern philosophies and religions (particularly those with Indian influence), Buddhist practices and conduct, promoting morality and ethics among children and youth, and ethics and ethical studies.
