The Student Club of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University, organized the 9th Humanities and Social Sciences Camp for the 2024 academic year at Hat Kham Bon Wattana School, Hat Kham Subdistrict, Mueang Nong Khai District, Nong Khai Province. The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Anurak Naowarat, the school director. Hat Kham Bon Wattana School is an opportunity expansion school in Mueang Nong Khai District, Nong Khai Province, under the Nong Khai Primary Educational Service Area Office 1, which offers education from kindergarten 1 to Mathayom Suksa 3 (Junior High School). The camp took place from January 30th to February 2nd, 2025.
The 9th Humanities and Social Sciences Camp was held under the theme "HUSO Onzon Sa-on Nong Khai" with the objective of developing potential and encouraging students to share and help others through the process of organizing volunteer development and community service camps. Students gained knowledge and understanding about the community and gained more experience from community-based learning, as well as promoting students' skills in working with others, having a holistic thinking process and being able to solve problems that arise systematically.
The activities organized in the 9th Humanities and Social Sciences Camp consisted of activities based on community service and development within the school (creating a BBL yard, painting pictures on the walls of the school building, cleaning the school, etc.), welfare base activities (cooking for the campers to eat), community study and learning base activities, which included pottery, making alms coins and weaving baskets, which are local wisdom of the people of Nong Khai, which is a center of diversity, whether it be ethnicity, language and culture, allowing the campers to "Onzon and Sa-on" Nong Khai city deeply. In addition, the campers also visited the sunflower field, a community-based tourist attraction that community leaders want to promote as a tourist attraction in Hat Kham Sub-district, allowing them to learn and experience more about the community way of life. The highlight of the 9th HUSO CAMP was the academic and recreational base activities with the students, where the students brought knowledge to integrate with recreational games to spark ideas for the new generation to open up a wider world in a more diverse society and pass on good things to the students. There was also a "Phee Tek Nong Hug" activity that created a bond between students from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and students from Hat Kham Bon Wattana School to learn about diversity and reduce the generation gap.
Nawapol Imjai (O-Cheer), a 3rd year student in the Southeast Asian Studies program as the camp president, said, "Organizing this camp was a challenging and huge task beyond what I have ever faced before because I have never had experience in this type of camp and I am not good at communicating with people, which makes me feel quite pressured and I have to apologize to my friends in each department that I may not be able to help fully. I can only take care of the facilities as best as possible. However, throughout the duration of the camp, the feelings I received in return were full of happiness. Seeing everyone's smiles in the campfire activities, feeling the exhaustion that comes with happiness in the Bai Sri Su Khwan activity, and hearing the laughter of the students were all very valuable. Thank you to everyone who gave me the opportunity and helped me throughout, including the student club, the student development department, as well as the school, community and all the campers who cooperated and were interested in this activity. The experience gained will be an important lesson in developing myself further."
Yosawadee Plangklang (Kan), a 1st year student in the Bachelor of Information Science program as a camper, expressed her impressions of the camp, "This is the first school development camp that I have ever participated in. It was a very good experience that made me learn and understand the importance of participating in activities that affect the development and growth of the school and community. Going to the camp this time made me see the determination and dedication of everyone, especially the students' club of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, in working together to develop what is still lacking in the school. Each activity is very beneficial, whether it is creating a better environment, integrating learning, or even enhancing skills for the students. During the various activities, I got to know many people, became closer to everyone, saw many other perspectives that I had never seen before, opened my heart to exchange feelings until we loved and were united more than expected. The feeling of joy and pride from seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter of the students, which the students have never had such a good experience before. The students were very happy and had a lot of fun. I didn't want this special time to disappear. Tears of gratitude and impression flowed until the last moment when I said goodbye. This camp will be a valuable experience and will remain in my memory and the students' forever."
