HUSO-KKU builds democracy conscience through a special talk on “Democratic Development Processes in Southeast Asian Countries”
December 12, 2023 – Sociology and Anthropology Program, Department of Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University, in collaboration with the Royal Golden Jubilee PhD Program (RGJPHD), the National Research Council (NRC) and University of Toronto, Canada, organized a special talk on ““Democratic Development Processes in Southeast Asian Countries”. Dr. Nathathai Manadee, Assistant to the Dean for Research and Academic Services presided over the opening session. Among over 100 attendants were lecturers from the Sociology and Anthropology Program, students, and the public. The event was held at 4A1-A3 Room, Ratana Pittaya Building, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University, and online through Zoom Program.

The special talk was given by Prof. Jacques Bertrand, an expert from the Department of Political Science, University of Toronto, who presented the issue related to the building of knowledge and understanding in development of democracy in Southeast Asia, including the key elements that lead towards democracy development, factors raising democratic regression and the power of democracy in conflict management. The talk built correct understanding in democratic governing system in Southeast Asia. In addition, there was a question and answer session as well as exchanges of academic viewpoints among the attendants.
