Khon Kaen University and University of Calcutta Discuss Academic and Research Partnerships
Khon Kaen, Thailand – On June 26, 2025, a productive meeting was held at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HUSO), Khon Kaen University (KKU), to explore extensive academic and research collaboration opportunities with the University of Calcutta, India. The discussions primarily centered on forging partnerships, particularly through KKU's Center for Civil Society and Nonprofit Management (CSNM).
The meeting brought together Professor Dr. Arup R. Bandyopadhyay from the Department of Anthropology, University of Calcutta, and a delegation from HUSO KKU, including Dr. Kantaphong Chitkla (Vice Dean for Education and Digital), Professor Dr. Buapun Promphakping (Director of Center for Civil Society and Nonprofit Management (CSNM), and Associate Professor Dr. Thanapauge Chamaratana (Head of the Department of Social Science).
Key discussion points included:
- Joint Research Initiatives: Strong emphasis was placed on collaborative research, especially in medical anthropology and population health, with Professor Bandyopadhyay expressing particular interest in water and food security, including cultural and biological dimensions affecting dietary choices and food distribution.
- Student and Staff Exchange Programs: A significant proposal was the establishment of student exchange programs, particularly at the Master's level. Professor Bandyopadhyay provided insights into the University of Calcutta's postgraduate programs, application processes for international students, and potential tuition waivers. The importance of fieldwork for social science students was highlighted.
- International Seminar and Visiting Lecturer: Professor Bandyopadhyay invited KKU participation in an international seminar in India scheduled for October 2025 and offered his services as a visiting lecturer.
