Science as Diplomacy: a Thai Historical Context Exhibition

On 26 April 2026, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University, hosted an exhibition under the research project of “Science as Diplomacy: a Thai Historical Context” at Leeds, United Kingdom. Funded by Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), the project brings together researchers from leading domestic and international institutions.
The research network comprises collaborators from Khon Kaen University, Burapha University, Silpakorn University, and Naresuan University. Additionally, the project features Professor Graeme Gooday (School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science) and Professor Martin Seeger (Thai Studies) from the University of Leeds as Executive Editors. The project is led by Associate Professor Dr. Orathai Piayura, Dean of HUSO KKU, who serves as the Principal Investigator.
The opening ceremony was honored by Mom Rajawongse Narisa Chakrabongse, who presided over the occasion, with Phra Kru Sirithammapratip delivering the welcome address. Associate Professor Dr. Orathai Piayura delivered a formal project report, followed by a speech on the impact of research funding support from Associate Professor Dr. Apisak Dhiravisit, Deputy Director at the National Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Policy Council.
This initiative aims to analyze and synthesize the historic development of science as a diplomatic tool, leading to policy recommendations and strategic formulations for science, research, and innovation in Thailand for the years 2028 to 2032.
The ceremony was further distinguished by opening remarks from Ms. Choltipa Vinyunavan, Consul of the Royal Thai Embassy, London, and congratulations from Professor Graeme Gooday. The event attracted international scholars and researchers to Wat Buddharam, Leeds.
