Famous writer, “Dr. Dawn F. Rooney”, visits Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences to lead a forum on Arts and Culture in Southeast Asia”

 

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University organized the “Arts and Culture in Southeast Asia and Dawn Rooney’s Collection” event for people interested in history, art, and culture, in which Dr. Dawn Rooney, a world’s renowned writer, was the distinguished speaker. On this occasion, Dr. Rooney donated a collection of over 1000 books to Khon Kaen University Library.

 

February 27, 2024 at 14:00 p.m. – Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee, Chairman of Khon Kaen University Council honored KKU by presiding over the opening ceremony of the Project:“Arts and Culture in Southeast Asia and Dawn Rooney’s Collection”, which was organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University, Southeast Asia Program.

 

At the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M. D., President of Khon Kaen University, welcomed Dr. Dawn F. Rooney, an expert in Asian history, art, and culture, and Ms. Sarah Wilberta Rooney. Among the distinguished participants were Assoc. Prof. Orathai Pia-ura, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Assoc. Prof. Pensri Jaroenwanich, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy; and Assoc. Prof. Supat Seenawat, M.D., Director of Khon Kaen University Library. There were over 300 people attending this program including administrators of the University, lecturers, staff, students, and the public. The event was organized at the Conference Room, HS. 03 Building, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

 

 

Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee, Chairman of Khon Kaen University Council said that it was a good occasion that Dr. Dawn F. Rooney, a world’s renowned writer who has written a lot of books on Southeast Asian art and culture to give information about the history of art and culture. Dr. Rooney also donated 1100 volumes of books on Arts and culture of Asia to Khon Kaen University Library with expectation to enhance knowledge of interested people.

 

 

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M. D., President of Khon Kaen University thanked Dr. Dawn F. Rooney and Ms. Sarah Rooney, for the donation of the collection of books he wrote during several years to Khon Kaen University Library so as to be the source of knowledge and research for students and lecturers, and also to enhance understanding of culture of those who are determined to perform studies on this field. In addition, the donation demonstrates KKU dedication to promote intellectual acquisition as well as cultural exchanges.

 

 

Dr. Dawn F. Rooney explained about the reason behind this donation of important books he has compiled for a long period to Khon Kaen University that he wanted students and the people in the Northeast to be able to study about history, art, and culture of countries in Southeast Asia including Thailand, Cambodia, India and Japan from a complete resource.

 

Khon Kaen University Library arranged a special book collection zone at the library to house the 1100 volumes of the donated books. This special book zone is called, “The James P. and Dawn F. Rooney Book Collection”. It is a suitable place for students, researchers, academicians and the public to come and research what they want to know.
